We’re looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual to help run our busy community café. To succeed in this role, you need to be creative, hard-working and flexible. Often the first point of contact for people coming into the hub, the post holder will have to be warm, welcoming and create an inclusive atmosphere.
Demonstrating the highest standards of customer welcome and care when assisting customers at the counter and delivering orders to tables
Giving advice, guidance and recommendations on products and menu selection to customers to ensure a positive experience and repeat business
Ensuring adequate stock levels in the display fridge and counters and managing stock rotation
Managing queues and meeting customer expectations, upselling to maximise profit
Making good quality barista coffee, and keeping excellent maintenance and cleanliness of the coffee machine
Service of hot and cold drinks, food, cakes and other food items
Keeping the areas tidy and clean including table clearing
Keeping table cutlery boxes stocked up and tidy, including garden tables
Watering plants regularly
Handling customer complaints in the first instance and reporting feedback to the Manager
Working within established guidelines and operating procedures
Responsible for security (product and cash), taking payments accurately and be vigilant for shoplifters and fraudulent credit cards etc.
Keeping up to date with special promotions and creating displays, updating the blackboards.
Assisting the chef with buffet orders
Managing the washing up areas, making sure the work stays under control.
Helping support cafe volunteers
Assist with setting up meeting room for bookings, including self-help coffee and tea areas
Assisting with marketing of the café on the estate, including delivering flyers
Cashing up at the end of the day
Taking orders via email and phone, and using email and phone to communicate with regular customers
Ensuring compliance with all legislation, H&S and food hygiene
Assist with other duties in the café, Quench building and garden as required
Quench Salisbury is an interactive hub in salisbury which aims to unite change makers, ignite social enterprises and activates young leaders to create a better future. Ultimately the vision is to see young adults solve social and environmental issues through innovation and collaboration.
The social enterprise hub is wholly owned by City Gate Church, and based on Churchfields Industrial Estate. It models social entrepreneurship by generating it’s own income through a cafe, co-working space and hiring meeting places. Working in partnership with other organisations, Quench offers training and support to young adults and social entrepreneurs.

Knowledge & Skills
Good understanding of Food Safety Standards, HACCP, COSHH, and general Health and Safety regulations
Level 2 award in Food Safety
Fluent English and good communication skills
Friendly and approachable
Hard-working and able to work in a busy environment
Motivated and enthusiastic
Aligned with the Quench vision and mission and able to carry this in all aspects of work
Successful apprentice could be offered permanent position, or could be offered support to start own social enterprise business.
Things to consider
Does not need to have a faith, but would need to understand and respect that the café operates out of a church context.
Must be kind and considerate to other staff members with impairments or disabilities.
Monday to Friday, 9am-3pm (TBC) 25-30 Hours per week.
